During an interview with GMANetwork, Venom cinematographer Matthew Libatique confirmed that his next project will be DC’s Birds of Prey film.

With Birds of Prey gearing up to begin production in early 2019, Matthew Libatique revealed that is preparing to begin work on the DC project. While Libatique didn’t divulge too many details on the film, he did express his excitement to work with the director Cathy Yen and explore the DC Universe after having worked on Sony’s Marvel film, Venom:

“I’m in preparation on a film currently called “Birds of Prey.” It’s probably going to have a different title. It’s with Warner Brothers, and the director is Cathy Yen. Who directed a film called “Dead Pigs” which is a Chinese film.  I’m excited.  It’s, in the superheroes genre but this time it’s in the DC universe, not the Marvel universe. Margot Robbie is set to star and I’m excited for that. And then it has a little bit of origin story in it, so it makes it intriguing and it’s very early though, so early discussions.”

Details on the Birds of Prey plot are currently unknown, though the film will center around the titular team of female heroes and villains based on the DC Comics characters and concepts created by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Chuck Dixon. Birds of Prey will also feature Batman villain Black Mask as the main antagonist of the film.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. Production on the project is expected to begin this January.

Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
