Ruben Fleischer, director of the upcoming Venom movie for Sony, recently revealed that fans could possibly see an unrated version of the film when it hits home video.

Venom is gearing up to hit theaters in only a few weeks, just in time for the Halloween season. The latest Halloween reboot arrives this season to deliver some great slasher terror, but if you’re looking for a crazy monster movie to celebrate your Halloween with, then the Venom solo movie is probably going to be for you.

If you just want some monster action and don’t want to have to deal with the continuity of an entire cinematic universe, no worries because it seems that the Sony/Marvel movie is going to be its own simple monster story that could possibly lead to more adventures down the line. This is what director Ruben Fleischer had to say about the story’s focus in a recent interview with Fandango.

“It’s definitely about Eddie and Venom, and their relationship, and making them as … you know, forging their bond, which will allow them to go on many journeys together in the future.”

If you were worried that the film would get bogged down in setting up a whole universe like 2017’s The Mummy infamously did, it sounds like that won’t be the case at all. In the last few years, some tent-pole franchise films have attempted to set up an MCU-style cinematic universe, much to the annoyance of many filmgoers.

Thankfully, Venom seems to be bucking this trend in favor of a more character-focused monster flick. Fans excited to see the iconic Spider-Man foe up on the big screen for the first time since 2007’s Spider-Man 3 can already purchase their tickets for the anti-hero’s first cinematic solo outing. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Venom as more information becomes available.
