The latest Venom footage showcases the titular symbiote and his knack for making a meal out of humans getting in his way.
When Sony screened Venom footage for lucky attendees at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it featured a scene in which the titular monstrous alien version of Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) chomped on a human’s head. Many fans thought that scenes like this would lead to an R-rating for the Spider-Man foe’s first solo movie. To the surprise of many fans, the Venom film nabbed a PG-13 rating, a move seemingly made to leave the door open for a Spider-Man crossover somewhere down the line. If you thought that the PG-13 rating meant a more friendly neighborhood symbiote, the latest footage from the film will assure you otherwise.
Although the film is PG-13, the iconic Spider-Man foe will be eating folks in this movie. The footage doesn’t show the extent of the violence or the aftermath, so there’s no telling how far that the studio will push that PG-13 rating but films like Lord of the Rings have pushed the limits of PG-13 violence pretty far. If you’re excited to see how Sony’s Marvel franchise is going to kick off, the film comes out in only a couple of weeks and according to director Ruben Fleischer, fans should stay after the credits to get every bit of geeky goodness.
