Fans of Venom comics will be happy to see that the film has plenty of Easter eggs scattered throughout, according to director Ruben Fleischer.
Each superhero franchise calls back to the comics that they are inspired by in many different ways. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for taking iconic stories, and iconic imagery, and perfectly capturing it on the screen while creating a whole new context for it within its own continuity. According to director Ruben Fleischer, his upcoming movie Venom will feature plenty of callbacks to the iconic anti-hero’s comic book legacy.
Venom is such an iconic character by design. His deformed, monstrous look makes every panel with him something special to behold, even if the writing isn’t always on the same level. His stories are filled with iconic moments and according to director Ruben Fleischer in a recent interview with Fandango, the film will feature plenty of references and Easter eggs for fans, some of which have already been spotted in the film’s trailers.
“Yeah, I definitely tried to pepper in Easter eggs throughout the film. Some are more obvious than others. I’m excited for fans of the comics to see the movie and try to spot them. One thing I will say is that, you know, at least was really gratifying for me, is when the trailer came out, people recognized frames that were taken directly from the comics that we tried to recreate in the movie. That was really gratifying to me to see that people appreciated that we literally lifted iconic frames from the Venom comic book and put them in the movie.
Even a line that was featured in the trailer: ‘Eyes, lungs, pancreas. So many snacks, so little time,” is directly taken from the comics. It was exciting to me that people recognized that and appreciated that.”
Sony’s Venom may have some fans online feeling trepidatious about catching the Marvel anti-hero’s solo adventure on the big screen but it seems that Fleischer is aiming to truly please fans of the comics with Easter eggs and nods throughout. Be prepared to hear plenty about those Easter eggs when the film finally hits theaters next month. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Venom as more information becomes available.
