‘Venom’ Screenwriter Teases Spider-Man’s Presence In Future Sony Film

Venom Sequel Spider-Man Sony Pictures

For so long, many said that Venom couldn’t work without Spider-Man. “You need to have Spider-Man be present for the Venom character to make sense. It would be confusing to audiences.” Well, months and much money at the box office later and audiences seem to have said differently. Venom may not have everyone’s friendly neighborhood wall crawler… well, crawling on the walls, more so since Peter Parker was snapped out of existence in Avengers: Infinity War, but the door is always open for Spidey to pop up in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.

Because yes, that’s still the name. One takeaway from Venom and its world is that the people there seem to have next to no idea about aliens, and we well known about aliens in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Especially after Infinity War. But with Venom doing so well and Sony plotting a course for its Spider-Man cinematic universe, could he himself pop up, either in a Venom sequel or otherwise? Keep in mind that it’s Sony who owns the film rights to Spidey, and they’re allowing Marvel Studios to borrow him.

At any point, Sony could decide to pull Spidey out and bring him into their own world. Now there’s no indication if that will indeed happen, but in a recent interview with Discussing Film, Jeff Pinkner, one of the screenwriters behind Venom, was asked if the recent Sony Marvel project was in any way connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe where Tom Holland’s Peter Parker resides, or is the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters in its own separate world. Here’s what Pinkner had to say, starting at the 7:37 mark.

“Without revealing anything that I’m not allowed to reveal, it is not impossible that in a future/upcoming Venom movie, Spider-Man will play a significant role…I think it’s fair to say that everyone involved would be very excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie.”

Here, have a listen to the interview in the video here.

So, there’s a hint at what might come down the line with a possible Venom sequel. Fans have no doubt been chomping at the bit to see Spidey face off with Venom. But would you want to see the two face off? Do you think that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker would be a match for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock? Or, alternatively, would you want to see a different version of Spider-Man in Sony’s Marvel universe? Let us know in the comments below.

Venom will be released on Digital HD, 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD on December 18.
