Vin Diesel Says ‘Bloodshot’ Will Help Sony Become Leader In Superhero Films

Bloodshot Vin Diesel Valiant Comics

Earlier this month, Sony releasedย Venom.ย Their big gamble in crafting their own comic book film separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to have paid off, with the film performing well at the box office despite mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. But beyond the lore of Spider-Man, Sony also has it sights on expanding their superhero movie slate withย Bloodshotย starring Vin Diesel.

Diesel, who will portray Ray Garrison aka Bloodshot sees the film as an essential element in bringing Sony to a leading position in the constantly-growing competition of superhero movies beyond Marvel and DC. When speaking to ComicBook.com, Diesel had this to say about the project:

“You’re watching something and you’re going…I guess I expected that we would finally get here in the superhero universe, but I can’t believe we’re here. Dave Wilson, who’s directing it. Guy Pearce, who’s in it is insane. We just have a great cast. Sony, you know that Sony is finally going to lead the charge in the superhero movies of the future because they’re incorporating a part of reality and incorporating issues that exist in society and embedding them into a quote-unquote superhero movie. It’s just awesome.”

Given that there are more and more superhero movies being released each year, more stories are taking the opportunity to incorporate issues that exist in society and put them on display. Recent films such asย Wonder Womanย andย Black Pantherย have had a cultural impact on the genre and industry and of course,ย X-Menย was always a property that functioned well as a social commentary. It’ll be interesting to see how themes can be incorporated toย Bloodshot.
