Okay, what we know for sure about The Walking Dead in the middle of its ninth season is that Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan are soon headed out. What we don’t know for certain is the methods in which the two will exit the series, if it’s for good, or if the door could be left open for one or both characters to return. If last night’s episode was any indication, it’s possible that Maggie could connect connect with new character Georgie- introduced last season- and return later. But right now, let’s focus on Rick Grimes.
Main series star Andrew Lincoln is hitting the road, Jack. While we know that Lincoln plans to return in hopes of directing an episode, we don’t know how Lincoln will exit. At least, not definitively. Will he die? Will he sacrifice himself like Madison did on Fear the Walking Dead? Will he ride off into the sunset with the possibility of him returning, maybe in the second half of the season?
In an interview with Express, actor Khary Payton, who plays Ezekiel on The Walking Dead, praised Andrew Lincoln as an actor and had nothing but good things to say about him, but within his remarks, he also said this particular thing:
“When I look back and think about it I think it was an amazing event, and I just got this feeling that nothing’s set in stone, I’ll just leave it at that.”
And he’ll just leave it at that. With how AMC has been promoting this as Rick Grimes’ Final Episodes, that Andrew Lincoln’s departure could breathe new life into the series, and so on, it seems like Rick will indeed die on The Walking Dead, but what if nothing is set in stone? Could Payton merely be teasing us with the possibility of what could be the door left open for Rick Grimes to return to the world of The Walking Dead? There’s no telling for sure, but with the weeks ahead, let us know how you think Rick could conceivably remain within the world of The Walking Dead.
