Warner Bros. May Not Be Developing ‘Aquaman 2’ After All

Aquaman Jason Momoa DC Extended Universe

Warner Bros. and DC are in the middle of softly rebooting their cinematic superhero universe and Aquaman seems to be the one leading the charge at the box office with a worldwide catch totalling over $1 billion. With impressive numbers like that, you would think the studio would want to fast track a sequel; however, that does not look to be the case with Aquaman.

Earlier today, THR reported that WB and DC are eyeing a potential spinoff based around the Trench, the alien-looking ocean dwellers that can be seen attacking Arthur and Mera in the Aquaman film. In that same article, the outlet refutes that neither James Wan, Jason Momoa, or the studio haved had any serious discussions regarding a direct Aquaman sequel.

The spinoff will be called The Trench and screenwriters Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald have been tapped to pen the script. Details on the project are sparse; however, THR is claiming that the film will not feature the main Aquaman cast.

What do you make of this news? Does it surprise you to hear that Warner Bros. has no immediate plans for a Aquaman 2? And are you at all interested in a Trench standalone movie? Let us know your thoughts and feelings in the comments below!
