Darkseid isn’t.

Warner Bros. New Gods The Trench

Warner Bros. has decided not to move forward with Ava Duvernay’s New Gods and James Wan’s The Trench.

Ava Duvernay and James Wan were developing two separate DC Films that focused on legendary comic characters like the New Gods and an Aquaman spinoff that focused on the kingdom of the Trench. Fans were eagerly awaiting for updates on the two projects, but nothing was announced for months. Now, we have some bad news for fans who we’re excited for the two movies.

Earlier today, Duvernay teased that WB had made a new decision regarding New Gods and now we know what it is. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. and DC Films are no longer developing New Gods and The Trench. Deadline reports that The Trench was canceled due to Wan’s Aquaman sequel schedule and New Gods was shelved due to it exceeding parameters beyond a solo movie.

You can see the New Gods’ deadliest foe Darkseid and Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Here is the synopsis for the film:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
