TVLine reports WarnerMedia is closing in on a name for its upcoming streaming service, with the unofficial frontrunner being “HBO Max.”
WarnerMedia is set to unveil its own streaming service next year and now the company is reportedly narrowing down the list of potential names for the platform. While multiple options are still being considered, “HBO Max” is reportedly the unofficial frontrunner for the name of the platform that will include Warner Bros.’ vast library of film and television projects alongside original content.
Considering all current HBO subscribers are expected to be automatically enrolled in WarnerMedia’s new streaming service, naming the platform “HBO Max” would certainly simplify the transition for most users. The WarnerMedia streaming service is expected to package HBO and Cinemax content alongside the Warner Bros. library at a reported cost of $16 to $17 per month.
Projects being developed for WarnerMedia’s streaming service include a Dune series centered on an order of women known as the Bene Gesserit, with Denis Villeneuve directing the pilot episode. Furthermore, WarnerMedia’s streaming service will include Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, an animated prequel series revealing the origins of the cute but dangerous creatures.
A beta version of the WarnerMedia streaming service will reportedly debut later this year while the full version is said to launch in 2020. WarnerMedia is also reportedly considering offering a less expensive version of the streaming service supported by ad revenue next year.
