WarnerMedia announced its upcoming streaming service will officially be named HBO Max.

Next year, WarnerMedia will join the streaming service game with a direct-to-consumer experience that will include Warner Bros.’ vast library of film and television projects alongside original content. Now, the company has revealed the streaming service is officially named HBO Max, noting that HBO’s legacy will be “‘Maximized’ with an extensive collection of exclusive original programming (Max Originals) and the best-of-the-best from WarnerMedia’s enormous portfolio of beloved brands and libraries.”

Robert Greenblatt, chairman, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer, made the following statement on HBO Max and the vast collection of content that will be made available to subscribers when it launches:

“HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform. HBO’s world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is ‘Friends.’ […] “Under the leadership of two of the strongest creative visionaries — Casey Bloys (HBO) and Kevin Reilly (original content and acquisitions) — and two of the most experienced digital experts — Tony Goncalves and Andy Forssell — I have no doubt they and their dedicated teams will deliver the world’s best storytelling to audiences of all ages wherever and whenever they want it.”

Television and others for HBO Max that includes exclusive streaming rights to all 236 episodes of Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Pretty Little Liars upon launch. HBO Max will become the exclusive streaming home to new Warner Bros. produced dramas for The CW starting in fall 2019, including the upcoming Batwoman television series starring Ruby Rose.

Previously announced projects being developed for WarnerMedia’s HBO Max include a Dune series centered on an order of women known as the Bene Gesserit, with Denis Villeneuve directing the pilot episode. Furthermore, WarnerMedia’s streaming service will include Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, an animated prequel series revealing the origins of the cute but dangerous creatures.

A beta version of the HBO Max will reportedly debut later this year and WarnerMedia is also said to be considering a less expensive alternative version of the streaming service supported by ad revenue next year.

HBO Max is currently scheduled to launch commercially in spring of 2020 with an anticipated 10,000 hours of premium content.
