The Wall Street Journal reports AT&T’s WarnerMedia is discussing a cost of between $16 and $17 per month for its upcoming streaming service.
WarnerMedia is set to unveil its own streaming service that includes Warner Bros.’ vast library of film and television projects alongside original content exclusive to the platform. According to WSJ sources familiar with WarnerMedia’s strategy, the company is discussing plans to package HBO and Cinemax content alongside the Warner Bros. library at a cost of between $16 to $17 per month.
While the cost may seem high in comparison to most streaming services (Disney+, for example, will launch with an initial subscription price of $6.99 per month), the price comes in just slightly more than HBO GO($14.99 per month) and the strategy is reportedly aimed at keeping WarnerMedia’s streaming service competitive against the platforms offering lower prices.
According to the WSJ report, the new WarnerMedia streaming service is expected to launch in full form in March of 2020, with a beta version debuting later this year. WarnerMedia is also reportedly considering offering a less expensive version of the streaming service supported by ad revenue in the year 2020.
