Rumor: Will Yoda Be In ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’?

There are already so many questions going into Star Wars: Episode VIII. Rey’s lineage, Kylo Ren’s new motivation, Finn’s journey moving forward, and Luke’s involvement among countless other possibilities have been subject to speculation for fans ever since The Force Awakens premiered last December.

Inevitably, not only do the usual questions arise, but so does constant rumors. Months ago, rumors emerged that one of the most iconic characters from the original trilogy would be making a return in Episode VIII. That character is none other than the legendary Jedi Master Yoda.

This rumor arisen due to reports that Frank Oz may have an involvement with the Rian Johnson-directed film. Making Star Wars reported that Oz was headed to the set. It has also been reported that Oz may have recorded audio for Episode VIII. This rumor has once again emerged, with a Reddit user named Skywalkergal posting an alleged interaction during Star Wars Celebration Europe:

One of the many stalls featured at the convention was Saving Yoda, ran by one of the original team operating Yoda in ESB. While waiting to have my photo taken with the Yoda puppet, the dude running it was talking to another guy. The random guy asked which Yoda puppet was currently on display. In response, we were all told that the one on display was puppet 2 (I think, I can’t quite remember exactly). He looked at both of us, and said that members of the original Yoda team have been called in to work on episode 8, using the Yoda 8 puppet, as they’d all recently been talking about it. He’d have no reason to lie.

Let’s remember that nothing has been confirmed about a Yoda appearance in Episode VIII. We do not have enough concrete information to be fully confident that would be the case. But hypothetically speaking, if Master Yoda were to appear, probably as a force ghost, I think it would be an incredible sight. Yoda is one of my favorite characters of the entire Star Wars Saga, and seeing him presumably with Rey and Luke training together would add another layer of symmetry to the series.

What do you guys think of this rumor? Will Yoda return? If you think he will, what do you hope to see with Yoda? Sound off in the comments below, and keep following us for more Star Wars news regarding Rogue One, Episode VIII, the untitled Han Solo film, and more.

Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran, Star Wars: Episode VIII comes to a galaxy near you on December 15, 2017.
