Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin mask gets damaged in a new TV spot for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

As we near the opening weekend of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios continue to release more promotional material, including TV spots, that tease much of the threats that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will face. In particular, the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) really stands out as perhaps one of his biggest menaces he’ll ever encounter.

A brand new TV spot for Spider-Man: No Way Home encapsulates the impending danger for Peter Parker. For one, the appearance of five villains from different universes is quite a handful for him, but the threatening presence of Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin certainly looms. In one particularly exciting shot, we see his iconic mask as seen in the original Sam Raimi films crushed, teasing a tough battle he shares with the MCU hero.

Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin mask has been an interesting point of contention for some fans over the years. That, along with his suit were often the subject of ridicule by some for looking too much like a Power Ranger suit. In particular, there’s a moment that he shared with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man on the rooftop in the original 2002 film where he makes a playful gesture that has often been made a meme by fans.

Given that we see Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn without the Green Goblin mask in some footage revealed for Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans will at least be gifted with one of the world’s best character actors’ skill in acting with his eyes. For all the memes that he has brought us, most people agree that his portrayal as Norman Osborn is iconic and memorable.

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming film:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.
