By all intents and purposes, Wonder Woman is not only the DC Extended Universe’s most critically successful film, but also the defining blockbuster of the summer. On top of being a film that needed to win goodwill back from audiences after the mixed reactions to the first three DCEU films, director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot told a beautiful, feminine superhero story that harkened back to the grandfather of all comic book films: Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie. This has left fans excited for the sequel.
With the major success of the film, the sequel is already on the horizon. Details regarding the sequel’s story speculate that it may be set during the Cold War this time around. DCEU co-producer Geoff Johns revealed an update regarding the script for the sequel:
“I’m working right now on the Wonder Woman 2 script. I just started.”
Warner Bros. will launch the stacked Hall H slate of panels for Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con. Many expect that confirmation regarding Wonder Woman 2 and Jenkins’ return will be officially announced during the presentation.
Here is the synopsis for Wonder Woman:
“Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.”
Wonder Woman is in theaters now.
