Drew Goddard Provides Update On ‘X-Force’ Movie

Drew Goddard recently opened up about the current state of the X-Force movie.

Drew Goddard is known for co-writing and directing the cult hit Cabin in the Woods, which he penned alongside The Avengers co-writer/director Joss Whedon. Goddard was at one time supposed to be the writer/director of the Sinister Six movie that was set to release after 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sadly, that never came to fruition but now Goddard has provided fans with an update on his latest superhero project, X-Force.

X-Force was once rumored to begin production right about now but despite Deadpool 2 being a massive box office success, there has seemingly been no update on the team-up. While speaking with Fandango about his upcoming film Bad Times at the El Royale, Goddard gave a brief update on the project. Sadly, his update may not be the one that fans were looking for:

“There’s no real update to be honest.”

Goddard then elaborated on why there’s no update and, as disappointing as it may be, his reasoning makes sense:

“I tend to focus very intensely on one movie at a time. We’re just sort of finishing Bad Times now, Ryan [Reynolds] is off shooting a movie and everyone sort of scattered, like dandelions to the wind. I think as we finish this up, we’ll all get together and start hammering out what we want to do next, but there’s no real update at this point.”

Goddard was then asked if he thinks that the movie is going to happen and this was his response:

“I can’t imagine there’s going to be a world where there aren’t more Deadpool movies because, boy, Ryan Reynolds is extraordinary, and so, we’ll just see.”

So don’t worry Deadpool fans, it sounds like the radio silence doesn’t mean the movie is canceled, simply waiting for everyone to finish their current projects. If you’d like to see more Goddard, his latest film Bad Times at the El Royale opens in theaters this Thursday and currently stands at a 79% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As for Ryan Reynolds, he’s currently filming the Michael Bay-directed Netflix action movie 6 Underground, due to release next year and is coincidentally written by Deadpool writer Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
