X-Men star Famke Janssen is open to returning to the role of Jean Grey for future Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
This year marked the 20th anniversary of the release of the first X-Men film which is often regarded as the film that started the comic book movie domination of Hollywood. Since then the franchise has seen plenty of ups and downs in its various installments and ended on something of a whimper with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Despite all of this, longtime X-Men star Famke Janssen is willing to return to the role of Jean Grey if asked.
Famke Janssen played the character of Jean Grey in five of the Fox produced X-Men films. Her final appearance in the films was at the end of the 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past where it was revealed that thanks in part to Wolverine’s efforts, the timeline had been altered to where she was still alive. The actress has not appeared in an X-Men film since.
While speaking to the Observer, Famke Janssen talked about her time on the X-Men films. When asked if she would be open to returning to the role of Jean Grey but was doubtful that the people behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be willing to bring her back:
“I think the question is more if they would have any interest in bringing me back. With Days of Future Past, there was a surprise way of reintroducing certain characters that had been killed off. In some people’s cases, it was to bring them back as well as the younger versions of their characters. I’d be curious to see what happens [with Marvel Films]. But, yes, I would be very open to it.”

Here is the official synopsis for the latest X-Men film, Dark Phoenix:
This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.
Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
