X-Men: Dark Phoenix star Jessica Chastain praised Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in Joker.
While Joker debuted on the festival stage to acclaim and accolades, the Joaquin Phoenix film has received comparatively mixed reactions from audiences since being released worldwide. However, even many critics of Joker have commended Joaquin Phoenix for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck and now X-Men star Jessica Chastain is among those who believe the actor should receive recognition for his work.
In response to Vincent D’Onofrio’s own appraisal of Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in Joker, Jessica Chastain described the latter’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime as “one of the greatest pieces of acting” the X-Men star has ever seen. Jessica Chastain concluded her post by noting that her mouth dropped open while watching Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and his performance left her “shook.”

I agree. It’s one of the greatest pieces of acting that I’ve ever seen. Mouth was dropped open in the theatre as it played. It left me shook.

Here is the official synopsis for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker:
Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fracturedsociety. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
