Producer Lauren Shuler Donner discussed Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios obtaining the X-Men rights at the TCAs on Monday.
The highly anticipated inclusion of the X-Men in the MCU is starting to feel more and more like reality. The Disney-Fox deal is expected to close soon, and it seems Marvel Studios is starting to form primitive plans for the beloved characters. Lauren Shuler Donner has been producing X-Men projects for over 20 years and according to Deadline, she is ready to hand off the characters to Kevin Feige:
“Kevin (Feige) and I started the first movie, he worked for me, he has a great story sense when it comes to weaving each world together, I trust him and I trust where he will take it. It’s all in Disney’s playground and they get to decided.”
Kevin Feige and Laruen Shuler Donner have a history with each other, not unlike Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal. The Fox producer was asked if she will still be involved in future X-Men projects under Marvel Studios:
“I don’t know, I don’t think so, certainly in name credit, it’s up to Kevin (Feige),” said Shuler Donner, “I don’t know what Kevin is thinking, I think he’s still dealing with the wealth of characters and trying to make sense of it all.”

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”
The film is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men franchise as we learn it.
