When rumors of a possible Fox/Disney merger first made its way online Marvel fans freaked out. With a merger on the horizon the X-Men could finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While conversations cooled down, the rumors caused Disney stock to rise, reigniting talks for Disney to close a $52.4 billion deal. If the merger is approved by the FCC, we will definitely see the X-Men crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While talking to Rotten Tomatoes at the TCA’s long time X-Men movie producer Laura Shuler Donner seemed totally on board with a possible Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover.
“Sure, why not? Look, it’s 18 months [away], so who knows, for me, I think Bob Iger is one of the smartest men in the country. Alan Horn’s an old friend. Kevin Feige was my intern and assistant and then my associate producer on the first X-Men. Kevin and I started the X-Men together, so for me if we work with Kevin, I’m happy.”
When the deal was officially announced Bob Iger was totally gung-ho about getting the X-Men rights back.
“We have the opportunity to expand iconic franchises for new generations of fans just as we have done with Marvel and Star Wars. We’re also looking forward to expanding the Marvel cinematic universe to include X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool and reuniting all of the Star Wars movies ever made under one roof, which opens new opportunities for that franchise.
What do you all think about the possibility of the X-Men crossing over with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tell us what you think in the comments section below! I, for one, am excited about the possibilities.
