This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con featured some exciting new developments regarding the DC Extended Universe. Not only was a new look at Zack Snyder’s Justice League released but James Wan also shared a first look at his upcoming film Aquaman exclusively for Hall H attendees. Although Jason Momoa was there at the presentation, his director and co-stars that include Amber Heard (Mera), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), Willem Dafoe (Vulko) and Patrick Wilson (Ocean Master) remained in Australia for principal photography.
Although Wan sent an exclusive look at the film for Hall H attendees, the official footage from the film did not include Abdul-Mateen’s Black Manta. In fact, there has yet to be an official hint at what Black Manta may look like in the new movie.
Recently, a fan on Twitter asked Abdul-Mateen about when he may tease about one of the most crucial elements of the character’s design: the head armor. Interestingly enough, Abdul-Mateen had an intriguing reply:
— Yahya Abdul-Mateen 2 (@yahya) July 24, 2017
Now let’s take this into perspective first. It is possible that Abdul-Mateen is joking about sharing a hint regarding Black Manta’s head armor. For all it’s worth, the actor may end up sharing an image of him wearing something else on his head that does not closely resemble the head armor in the slightest.
But either way, fans should not be surprised if either Abdul-Mateen or Wan unveil an image that features Black Manta in all of his glory. As someone who had the opportunity to see the exclusive Hall H first look, Wan was not lying at all when he stated that he aimed to make the film a swashbuckling adventure.
Aquaman will make a splash on December 21, 2018. Its cast includes Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Patrick Wilson as Prince Orm Marius (Ocean Master), and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna.
