Zachary Levi is open to playing a Star Wars Legends character: Dash Rendar from Shadows of the Empire.

While engaging with his fans on Twitter, Zachary Levi was asked if there was a Star Wars character that he’d like to play if given the opportunity. He explained that he was open to the idea of playing the character of Dash Rendar from the LucasArts video game Shadows of the Empire. That game was set between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi; since Han Solo is frozen in carbonite in that time, Dash Rendar, the point-of-view character, had a pretty similar personality and role in the story.

You can read Zachary Levi’s Star Wars tweet below:

Since Shadows of the Empire is a non-canon story, Dash Rendar is not part of the official Star Wars universe, but that’s not stopping him from being integrated into the overall vision for Star Wars going forward. Legends character like Grand Admiral Thrawn have been integrated into the setting in spite of their non-canonical origins, but they’ve only been brought on to serve the story. Since the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi is largely unexplored, Dash Rendar could yet appear in that era.

Directed by J. J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams. Carrie Fisher also appears as General Leia Organa through the use of previously unreleased footage shot for previous Star Wars films.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now playing in theaters.
