Zack Snyder revealed the Batman villains he wanted to introduce within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
With Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and his Director’s Cut of Justice League, Zack Snyder put together an intriguing three-film narrative within the DCEU that polarized critics, but won its fair share of devoted fans. As seen in the Snyder Cut, an epilogue showcased some of the plans he had for potential sequels that likely won’t see the light of day, given that Warner Bros. has their plans elsewhere, including with Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
The Batman will be introducing new takes on the beloved comic book characters in Gotham City. Not only will Robert Pattinson play Bruce Wayne, but he will be joined by Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, Paul Dano’s Riddler, and Colin Farrell’s Penguin. Interestingly enough, when asked by BroBible about whether or not he considered bringing the Penguin into the DCEU, Zack Snyder confirmed that he thought of it, and even revealed the other two villains in Matt Reeves’ film were also considered:
“Very much so,” Snyder responded when asked if Penguin was someone he was considering introducing in the DCEU. “Obviously Catwoman is someone we talked about and we had a Riddler concept that we talked about. Remember, The Riddler was kind of like the one who figured out the Anti-Life Equation on Earth in the spec scripts.”
Zack Snyder is a big fan of the Penguin character, and is pretty excited to see what Matt Reeves and Colin Farrell will bring to Oswald Cobblepot:
“Frankly, I’d love to see Penguin — I think will be cool. I think that’s a great character and I’d love to see a version of Penguin that has an inherent camp to it. It’d be awesome to see how you could deconstruct it and make him into something crazy.”
Here is the synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
The Snyder Cut stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
Both versions of Justice League are available on HBO Max. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Multiverse and The Batman, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
