Zack Snyder Discusses ‘Batman v Superman; Has A Message For ‘Man of Steel’ Critics

We’re only a little over a month away from the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is one of the most anticipated movies in recent years. As you may have guessed from its title, it will feature the Caped Crusader going head-to-head with the Man of Steel, but it will also introduce us to some of the other members of the Justice League such as Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash. However, due to the amount of supporting characters who are set to appear in the movie, many fans are concerned that they could somehow steal the spotlight from the titular heroes.

Director Zack Snyder took some time off his busy schedule to promote the final Clash the Superbowl contest in an interview with the Hall of Justice podcast, where he reassured that the rest of the superheroes who will be making an appearance in the movie will only have minor roles, apart from Wonder Woman who will eventually bring Batman and Superman together in order to take down Doomsday.

As far as the other Justice League characters go, they play a very small role. It’s really just a whisper they exist. Except for Wonder Woman, we see her really well. But really the movie is about Batman and Superman. And we really take time with them and we really drill down on the why of them and what they stand for and their beliefs and them as characters. That’s pretty much the why of the movie. But again as I said, it does begin the conversation about these guys are out there.

He then went on to reveal that they’re currently deep into post-production on the movie and that it should be finished fairly soon. In the meantime, the studio is already in early stages of pre-production on Justice League, which should begin filming later this year in London.

We’re pretty much done, I mean there are a few things, a few 3D shots coming in that we are approving and things like that. I’d say the movie is 90%, 99.9% done. And really at this point we’re just fine tuning the final details while we get Justice League ready.

While some people tend to criticize Man of Steel for its third act, there are others who aren’t fond of Superman’s portrayal in the movie, primarily because of how different he is compared to previous incarnations. The director had the following to say about those who didn’t like his version of the character:

People are always like, ‘You changed Superman’. If you’re a comic book fan, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you know the true canon, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you’re a fan of the old movies, yeah I changed him a bit. That’s the difference. I’m a bit of a comic book fan and I always default to the true canon. Not the cinematic canon that sort of, that in my opinion, plays fast and loose with the rules. And so, I feel like I tried to create a Superman that would set a tone for the world.
