How Zack Snyder Retconned ‘Justice League’ For Aquaman Without WB’s Consent

Justice League Zack Snyder

Neil Daly, the person in charge of the test screenings for Justice League and Aquaman, recently spoke about how Zack Snyder helped recton Justice League for Aquaman without Warner Bros. consent.

According to a vent interview with Fire And Water Podcast, Daly commented on how Jason Momoa’s character evolved from Justice League to Aquaman. He spoke about how Josh Whedon introduced a more immature and childish Arthur Curry than the one planned by Zack Snyder. After the latter stepped down from directing, we never got to see that version of Aquaman. It was only until the Aquaman film that Director James Wan decided to use Zack Snyder as a kind of consultant to help him get the best out of the character which was what we ultimately saw on the silver screen:

“We could have gotten a whole movie about Aquaman basically fawning over Mera the whole time and making all kinds of dirty jokes and things like that and they really had to get away from that, which is all what Whedon had done, so Snyder had a little bit of an influence on Aquaman. James Wan was showing Zack Snyder – against the studio’s wishes – cuts of the movie and early test screenings and storyboards to make sure that they’re on the same page with what he originally wanted and Snyder gave his blessing of approval, bringing it back to what he wanted all along.”

There are some similarities between the Arthur Curry from Justice League and the one from Aquaman, for sure. But we can’t deny that the one we recently saw had more depth with the struggle of being half human and half Atlantean. It would have been great to see that version of Aquaman in Justice League to see how the team would have reacted to his inner conflict.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman is in theaters now.
