At the end of the widely controversial Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it seemed that the Man of Steel met an untimely demise in his heroic bid to stop Doomsday. However, a final shot of dirt rising off of Clark Kent’s grave gave hope that Superman would return. Now, Justice League director Zack Snyder has teased Superman’s role in the upcoming film.

Reddit got a hold of scans of an upcoming issue of Empire, which reveal some of what Zack Snyder has to say about Superman’s role.

“Superman does play a big part in this movie,” teases Snyder. “His presence, and lack of presence, are big story points …”

Given that the images released for the movie thus far have only shown Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman, fans may be feeling a bit nervous about the lack of Superman. From Zack Snyder’s quote, it sounds like Big Blue will be making an appearance in the film, most likely at some point after his death brings the other heroes together.

However Superman ultimately returns, the quote makes it sound like Zack Snyder is at least promising that he’ll play a big part – both in life and in death.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is scheduled to be released November 17, 2017, and will be directed by Zack Snyder. Along with Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, and Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg will be back as Lex Luthor, and Connie Nielsen will also be back as Queen Hippolyta. J.K. Simmons will debut as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard will play Aquaman’s wife Mera, Kiersey Clemons will play Barry Allen’s love interest Iris West, Willem Dafoe will play Aquaman’s right hand man Nuidis Vulko, and Ciarán Hinds to play Steppenwolf.
