Zazie Beetz On How ‘Deadpool 2’ Differs From Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’

Zazie Beetz recently opened up about how her Deadpool 2 experience differed from Todd Phillips’ Joker and what it was like to work with Joaquin Phoenix.

After the success of Deadpool 2 and praise for her performance as Domino, Zazie Beetz was cast in another comic book film in Joker. Zazie Beetz also recently joined the star-studded voice cast of Amazon Prime’s Invincible animated series, based off The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s comic book series.

In Joker, Zazie Beetz will play Sophie Dumond, who appears to be a love interest of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck in the film. Zazie Beetz recently appeared at Puerto Rico Comic Con, where she shared with CineXpress how her Deadpool 2 experience was different from Joker:

“I mean, the whole vibe of the set is very different because Deadpool is about the comedy and landing the joke and the physicality of it, whereas Joker is more emotional and is a darker tone. It’s not the same type of goofing off that happens on the Deadpool set, in a way. Even though that also was a lot of work too. Joaquin is just a really honest person and a really genuine person. It’s really nice as an actor to be working with somebody like that, to really be able to exchange emotionally.”

Are you excited to see Zazie Beetz in Joker? Do you think she will reprise her role as Domino? Sound off in the comments below!

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.

Joker hits theaters October 4, 2019.
