At the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Spider-Man star Zendaya wore a Vera Wang dress that was inspired by Batman villain Poison Ivy.

Although Zendaya may be best known to comic book fans for her role as “MJ” in the new Spider-Man films, the stunning green Vera Wang dress she wore at the 2019 Emmy Awards was inspired by one of Batman’s most famous villains. In a series of posts on his official Instagram Stories feed, Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach confirmed the dress was inspired by at least two versions of Poison Ivy.

One photo reveals the Poison Ivy from Batman: The Animated series provided the inspiration for the shape of Zendaya’s dress. Meanwhile, another photo shows how the slip-style lower part of Zendaya’s dress is reminiscent of the costume worn by Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy from Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin.

In the comics, Poison Ivy is a Gotham City botanist who is obsessed with plants and environmentalism. Traditionally depicted as a Batman villain who uses plant toxins and mind-controlling pheromones to carry her out her schemes, recent comics have depicted Poison Ivy as an anti-heroine.
