The script for Spider-Man: No Way Home hints at the future of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Zendaya’s future.

The full, official screenplay for Spider-Man: No Way Home has been online for the past week and fans have been poring through it to find additional details. Unfortunately, the script released online was the shooting script, which meant no deleted or alternate scenes were present. So while the script didn’t feature any major bombshells, fans did manage to find a hint that teases the future of Zendaya’s MJ and her relationship with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker allows Doctor Strange to cast a spell that essentially erases everyone’s memory of the teenager. It’s a devastating moment, turning the memories that Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned hold of Peter into a blank slate. However… maybe MJ does do remember?

As the film wraps up, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker goes to the cafe MJ works at to remind her of their shared history. Parker quickly changes his mind when he sees just how liberated MJ and Ned are now that they’re not tied to the web-head. So while Peter may decide to forget things with Zendaya’s character, she might not be ready to forget him. The screenplay explicitly says that there’s “a flicker of déjà vu on her face,” when he visits her. As Peter leaves the cafe, the script states that MJ “[watches] Peter go with a lingering sense of…recognition?”

A fourth Spider-Man film hasn’t been officially confirmed and it’s unclear if Zendaya is in talks to return as MJ but it seems pretty clear that Doctor Strange’s spell wasn’t perfect. Perhaps MJ and Peter Parker will eventually reunite?

Here is the synopsis Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
