The Batman director Matt Reeves discussed the possibility of Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman receiving her own HBO Max spin-off series.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is set to hit cinemas in less than a month. The highly-anticipated DC reboot is already poised for box office glory and overwhelmingly positive reviews. Warner Bros. clearly has faith in Reeves’ vision as they’ve already commissioned two spin-offs for HBO Max: one focusing on the Gotham City Police Department from the perspective of a corrupt police officer, and the other centering on Colin Farrell’s Penguin.
Seeing as Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman is set to be a key player in The Batman, fans have been wondering if Selena Kyle will get her own HBO Max series. During a recent press event (via ComicBookMovie.com), director Matt Reeves was asked what the future holds for Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman. Reeves deflected and directed the question towards HBO Max’s reps, saying that he’s focused on developing the sandbox he’s working in before expanding and adding to it.
“You should really talk to the HBO Max reps! I mean, look, what we’re really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas we want to do and sure we want Selina to continue. Their relationship and what they are to each other is, to me, that’s the heart of the movie is the push-pull between the two of them and the way that she’s going to evolve and where all of that will go so, we’re talking about a lot of things.”
It’s interesting how Matt Reeves noted that Selina Kyle’s relationship with Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego is the heart of the film. Seeing as details are slim on the film, it’s hard to speculate what the future holds for Catwoman after The Batman.
Here is the synopsis for The Batman:
Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.
When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
