Mad Men alumni Hudson Thames voices Zombie Hunter Spider-Man in Marvel’s latest What if…?episode.
What If…? has been on a roll these last few episodes, and the latest had heads rolling… literally. The latest episode of Marvel’s animated series saw the undead terrorizing our heroes. One of the episode’s main players included Zombie Hunter Spider-Man, a riff on Tom Holland’s web-slinger. Holland, however, didn’t return to voice the character for the animated series, likely due to contractual issues. Instead, Marvel brought in Mad Men alumni Hudson Thames to voice everyone’s favorite wall-crawler.
The Mad Men alum did a fantastic job by recreating Tom Holland’s voice, while also putting his own spin on the character. Hudson Thames also appeared in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. What makes Thames’ take on the character so special is that he’s the first individual in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to mention Uncle Ben by name. For that name drop alone, fans have already begun to revere Thames’ Spider-Man.
While Thames’ performance as Spider-Man was as authentic as it could get, many have wondered why Tom Holland wasn’t brought in. Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum previously mentioned that Holland’s omittance from the animated series likely had to with the actor’s contract with Sony. While contracts may have gotten in the way, we’re still glad that a capable actor like Hudson Thames was brought in to voice the quippy webslinger.
Here is the synopsis for What If…?:
