‘X-Men’ Spin-Off ‘New Mutants’ Lands Screenwriters

The New Mutants

The X-Men Cinematic Universe is continuing to expand, including the upcoming New Mutants films that we have been hearing several things about this year and the project just got another update.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Fault In Our Stars screenwriting duo, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, has joined the creative team to write the screenplay for New Mutants. The film is being directed by Josh Boone who actually directed Fault In Our Stars, which makes this a reunion between the screenwriters and Boone.

X-Men screenwriter Simon Kinberg is set to produce the film which reportedly is aiming for a 2017 production and could possibly be featuring Charles Xavier a.k.a Professor X. It remains to be seen if it will be James McAvoy or Patrick Stewart’s Professor X that shows up in the film, although Stewart has hinted in recent interviews that Wolverine 3 might be his final time playing the character.

New Mutants is just one among several X-Men franchises, as Deadpool is getting a sequel and (despite having lost its recent director) Channing Tatum being signed on to play Gambit in a solo film. In addition to that, Hugh Jackman will be portraying Wolverine one last time in the upcoming third Wolverine installment while we also wait for new updates on the next X-Men sequel with the younger versions of the iconic mutants.
