The Agents of SHIELD finale features an interesting connection the time-travelling events of Avengers: Endgame.
Agents of SHIELD finally came to a close after seven impressive seasons and a number of references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe along the way. And with its final episode, the writers used a particular plot point from Avengers: Endgame to help keep the timeline in balance. The latest season previously referenced Earth’s Mightiest Heroes after namedropping one of the most iconic villains in the franchise. But this latest connection answered the mystery behind Fitz’s absence in season seven.
It’s revealed that Fitz has been using the Quantum Realm to observe different timelines and alternate futures. Fans will obviously recognize the Quantum Realm from Avengers: Endgame, which allowed the heroes to travel throughout time to assemble their own Infinity Gauntlet. The Agents of SHIELD team even travelled to it using their own Quantum Tunnel. Although when it comes to time travel, Back to the Future co-writer Bob Gale recently opened up about Endgame‘s reference to the classic trilogy. It wasn’t the only tie to the wider universe though, with Daisy Johnson heavily implying that she’d joined SWORD. Fans think the space-based agency appeared at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which revealed Nick Fury in space.
What did you think of the Avengers: Endgame connection in Agents of SHIELD? Did you enjoy the finale? Do you want to see these characters appear in other shows or movies? Sound-off in the comments!
