Gilbert Gottfried was known for his controversial standup routines and his distinct voice. Several of these routines landed him in hot water and the actor had been blacklisted by producers and lost roles because of them. In more recent years he voiced the Aflac duck for the Aflac insurance commercials but is perhaps best known to many for his role in the Aladdin films.

In the Aladdin films, Gilbert Gottfried portrayed the character Iago the Parrot, who was antagonist Jaffar’s right hand. He would go in to reprise the role for the direct to video films, Aladdin: The Return of Jaffar and Aladdin: The King of Thieves where the character would eventually redeem himself. Gottfried also reprised the role for the Aladdin television series and the Kingdom Hearts video games.

Gottfried is survived by his wife, Dara Kravitz, and two children, Lily and Max.
