Aladdin star Mena Massoud says that even after the Disney musical made $1 billion at the box office, he was denied multiple auditions.

Mena Massoud recently revealed that he’d like to change the popular misconceptions audiences have about actors once they’ve starred in movies as big as Disney’s Aladdin. After Mena Massoud’s Aladdin made $1 billion at the box office, Disney were reportedly considering a sequel to the film – with the producer explaining that they’d like to explore more of the story. But while Disney were pleased with Aladdin‘s reception, Mena Massoud says he hasn’t had an audition since starring in the film.

Aladdin star Mena Massoud spoke to The Daily Beast ahead of starring in Hulu’s Reprisal, explaining that he hasn’t booked any auditions since the Disney musical. The actor explained that many fans assume he’ll be raking in offers for films and franchises after Disney’s Aladdin, but the reality is much different. Mena Massoud went on to say he’s not expecting to have huge roles simply handed over, but he’d like the chance to prove his talents in the room. Take a look what the star had to say about his experiences after Disney’s Aladdin below.

“I’m kind of tired of staying quiet about it. I want people to know that it’s not always dandelions and roses when you’re doing something like Aladdin. ‘He must have made millions. He must be getting all these offers.’ It’s none of those things. I haven’t had a single audition since Aladdin came out. It’s wild to a lot of people. People have these ideas in their head. It’s like, I’m sitting here being like, OK, Aladdin just hit $1 billion. Can I at least get an audition? Like I’m not expecting you to be like, here’s Batman. But can I just get in the room? Like, can you just give me a chance? So it’s not always what you think.”
