Nightcrawler is officially back! Alan Cumming speaks out on his shocking return as the Flying Fiend in Avengers: Doomsday, along with a hilarious video.
There were a lot of shocking announcements when it came to the Avengers: Doomsday cast. The sheer fact that any X-Men would be appearing in the film was surprising enough. However, many fans thought that their involvement would simply be the faces of the team: Magneto, Professor X, Wolverine, and Cyclops. Almost nobody would have guessed that Alan Cumming would also be making his return as Nightcrawler in the film.
Yet the news is true as his skin is blue. Alan Cumming is officially locked to return as the Fuzzy Elf in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor was able to talk about his forthcoming appearance during an interview on TODAY with Jenna & Friends. While he admitted that he was incredibly amazed by the opportunity, he teased that the most exciting part of the whole thing was how much better films have gotten at full-body makeup over the past two decades!
“Isn’t it nuts? I’m excited and amazed. It’s been 23 years since I was a superhero. I’ve had some makeup tests already for the role, but what’s great about it was that before it was about 4 and a half hours to apply it, but now it’s only 90 minutes. Before, all of the tattoos were done by hand. They hadn’t decided on them before we started filming. Now, they just stick onto my face. It’s a game changer. I’m going back to being a 60-year-old superhero, and everyone seems really lovely.”
Alan Cumming Gets Into Character
To celebrate his return as Nightcrawler, Alan Cumming posted a new image of him jumping around in a fashion typical of the Great Boggie. While most actors wouldn’t be so eager to flip and dip around in their 60s, it seems Cumming is ecstatic to reprise one of his most iconic roles in Avengers: Doomsday, simply adding the caption “Never say never!”
It’s currently unclear how big of a role Alan Cumming will play in Avengers: Doomsday. However, given he was billed alongside other key X-Men making their return, it’s likely he’ll serve as a key member of that storyline when it comes to pass. And if the comments about his makeup are anything to go by, it’s certain Nightcrawler will look better than ever!
