Is Avengers: Doomsday actually filming without a script? Alan Cumming gives his thoughts on the viral controversy surrounding the Marvel film.
One of the most viral points of conversation surrounding Avengers: Doomsday is the idea that the film doesn’t even have a complete script. While many consider this a unique problem inherent to the “rushed” nature of the film, it’s a critique that Marvel is no stranger toward. Deemed the “Marvel Method”, it’s the process by which the studio starts production on a project without a finalized script.
However, aside from a handful of rumors and remarks from actors, there’s actually been no confirmation one way or another on whether or not Avengers: Doomsday has a finalized script. That changed recently when Alan Cumming, who’s set to reprise his role as Nightcrawler in Marvel’s ambitious crossover, revealed that Marvel did eventually hand him a finished script.
“Oh yeah, we eventually saw a script,” Cumming told Entertainment Tonight. “It took a while. We had a script.”
Alan Cumming’s Experience On Avengers: Doomsday
Of course, even though Avengers: Doomsday had a finished script, that doesn’t mean that Alan Cumming saw all of it. Marvel is infamous for holding pages back and lying to actors to avoid leaking details about upcoming projects. This seems to be no different here, as Cumming would go on to describe the secrecy around what he was given.
“It’s complicated. A lot of the time, some characters have different names for secrecy. I got the gist of it. It’s massive.”
It seems as though, even though Avengers: Doomsday didn’t have a water-tight script as production started, Marvel wasn’t particularly behind the eight ball when it came to this production. Given how vocal Alan Cumming has been about the process, it’ll be interesting to see what more insights he can reveal about the production- especially as official details are slow to come.
