Alan Tudyk is a master of many faces. During a recent convention appearance, the actor broke down the origin of his surprising Deadpool cameo.
The Deadpool franchise has always been full of wide cameos, though perhaps none crazier than the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance by Alan Tudyk and Matt Damon in Deadpool 2. For years, Marvel fans were left in the dark as to how such a strange cameo came to be. However, during a recent appearance at Megacon Orlando 2024, Tudyk revealed it all stemmed back to his work on the horror comedy Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil.
“I feel like somebody saw Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.” Tudyk explained during his panel “And it was gonna by myself and Tyler Labine being Hick 1 and Hick 2. But, yeah, but they’re like ‘Or instead of Tyler Labine we could do Matt Damon.’ And put him in like a big costume, like he was heavy, and he didn’t look him at all.”
“He came into a makeup trailer that day and he was like ‘Hey man how’s it going?’ and it was all Matt Damon voice, and just not Matt Damon at all. No other part of him said Matt Damon. But wow I’m meeting Matt Damon! You look bad! You do not look good.”
While it’s a shame fans didn’t get treated to a full Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil reunion in the Deadpool franchise, it was certainly a treat to see Alan Tudyk put on the overalls one more time for a quick cameo in Deadpool 2. While it’s unlikely the actor will reprise his role in Deadpool and Wolverine, stranger things have certainly happened in the world of comic book movies!
