Amanda Seyfried Reveals Why She Passed On Gamora Role In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

Amanda Seyfried was up for Gamora before Zoe Saldana ended up with the role for 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Amanda Seyfried explained why she passed on the role of Gamora in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film.

Gamora has become a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after the last two Avengers films as the daughter of Thanos. While Zoe Saldana’s Gamora might have died in Avengers: Infinity War, 2014 Gamora is still active and will likely play a big role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy might feel irreplaceable now after multiple appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but several actors like Zachary Levi, Jason Momoa, Amanda Seyfried, and others were in the mix to star in the film early on. More specifically, Seyfried was on Marvel Studios’ radar for Gamora, before Zoe Saldana nabbed the role. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Seyfried talked about almost playing Gamora and why she didn’t want the role:

“I think about it often. I’m not really a Marvel movie watcher, which is, I think, why I was just like, ‘Ah, I don’t wanna be green. It’s just so much work.’ I remember Jennifer Lawrence talking about once, how long it took her to get blue. And I was like, ‘That seems like hell on earth,’ because then you get to set and you’re only there for a couple hours, and then you have to take everything off. And that was literally the reason.”

While production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to begin early this year, the project was put on hold following Disney’s decision to remove James Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy. Now, Gunn will begin production on the third film after completing work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC, which he is currently editing from the safety from his home due to the ongoing crisis. Details on the third chapter of Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Sean Gunn.
