Lucasfilm has confirmed that Amandla Stenberg will lead the upcoming Star Wars series, The Acolyte.

Lucasfilm held a presentation at Star Wars Celebration in May, showcasing their upcoming live-action projects. Heading into the panel, many expected we would learn more about Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte; a series set a century before the events of the Skywalker Saga kick-off. However, the series was absent from the Lucasfilm presentation.

It was previously reported that Amandla Stenberg was in talks to lead the upcoming Star Wars series back in December. Months later and Lucasfilm has finally confirmed that Stenberg will star in The Acolyte. Stenberg confirmed their casting in the series by sharing a post from the Lucasfilm exhibit on the San Diego Comic-Con floor. You can check out their Instagram post below.

Who Will Stenberg Play?

While Amandla Stenberg has been confirmed to appear in The Acolyte, it’s still a mystery who they will play. Unlike most of the Star Wars projects we’ve gotten before, The Acolyte will take the franchise in a new direction, set at the end of the High Republic era. Safe to say, Stenberg is probably playing a new character, who will surely be the first of many in the new series. Principal photography on The Acolyte is expected to begin later this year in the United Kingdom.

Here is the synopsis for the most recent Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi:

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.

Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
