Amber Heard recently confirmed that she will return as Mera opposite Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry in the upcoming Aquaman sequel despite online rumors and speculation.
Aquaman star Amber Heard has been in a whirlwind of legal disputes involving her ex-husband Johnny Depp as of late. The latter was recently asked by Warner Bros. to step away from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Because of Heard’s involvement with the various cases, some have wondered if Warner Bros. would do the same for the Mera actress with Aquaman 2 on the horizon.
It was recently revealed that Amber Heard returned as Mera for Zack Snyder’s Justice League reshoots, which all but confirmed that she is still involved with the DC Extended Universe. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, not only did Heard confirm her involvement with Aquaman 2, but shared her excitement for it as well:
“I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired and that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back. I’m so excited to film that.”
The Aquaman star also addressed the various rumors and petitions that have circulated online in the last few months claiming her departure:
“Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality. Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”
