During the Johnny Depp defamation trial, Amber Heard shared that her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was reduced.

With Amber Heard’s role in Johnny Depp’s defamation trial, there’s been a lot of speculation about what this could mean for her role as Mera in the Aquaman franchise and greater DC Extended Universe moving forward. Heard has already completed filming, with the sequel hitting theaters next year.

The Johnny Depp defamation case resumed on Monday, and new details regarding Amber Heard’s role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom came to light. You can read what Heard said about the Aquaman sequel in court via u/BatmanNewsChris on Reddit below.

Lawyer: “Have you participated in Aquaman 2?”

Heard: “I have. I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film.”

Lawyer: “Were you ultimately able to film in Aquaman 2?”

Heard: “A very pared down version of that role, yes.”

Lawyer: “What if anything changed in the script?”

Heard: “I was given a script. Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”

Many have also been calling for Warner Bros.’ removal of Amber Heard from the Aquaman franchise since Mads Mikkelsen replaced Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. With a reduced role, it wouldn’t be unheard of for the studio to replace Heard before the film comes out in March.

Here is the synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom:

When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.

Directed by James Wan, the upcoming sequel stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Arthur Curry, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Vincent Regan as Atlan, Jani Zaho as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon, and Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk in an unknown role.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theaters on March 17, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Amber Heard in the upcoming DC sequel, the ongoing Johnny Depp case, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
