Did ‘Andor’ Season 2 Confirm Andy Serkis’ Return As Kino Loy?

Never tell me the odds...

Andy Serkis Kino Loy Andor Disney Plus Star Wars

In a galaxy far, far away, anything seems possible. Some fans even believe that fan-favorite character Kino Loy, played by Andy Serkis, may be able to escape his fate and return in Andor season 2.

This speculation comes follows a recent press release for the 2023 Star Wars Celebration. In it, Disney highlights the cast of Star Wars: Andor, including Diego Luna, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough and Genevieve O’Reilly, who will all be reprising their roles in the show’s second season. Among the list of the returning cast, however, was Andy Serkis. His Star Wars character Kino Loy was last seen in the episode “One Way Out” where he failed to escape the Empire’s prison on Narkina 5. While the fate of Kino Loy was never revealed, the Empire doesn’t have a great track-record when it comes to showing amnesty to Rebels.

Many fans believe Kino Loy’s amibiguous fate could mean his return in the show’s second season. However, the outcome that is more likely is that Disney simply used the cast of season one for its press release, and Andy Serkis will remain absent for Andor season two. This isn’t the first time Serkis would be sidelined in the second part of a Star Wars project he was attached to, with him also playing Supreme Leader Snoke in the sequel trilogy. While it’s unlikely he’ll return in Andor, fans can only hope Serkis makes his grand return to Star Wars soon.

What to expect from Andor season two

The Andor season two footage screened at the Star Wars Celebration fan convention revealed that Mon Mothma, leader of the Rebel Alliance, will play a key role in the upcoming season as she rallies the rebellion against the Empire, as reported by Variety. Fans were also treated to a glimpse of Cassian Andor’s new hairstyle, indicating that there may be some significant changes in store for the character.

As with the first season, Andor season two is being created and produced by a talented team of writers and directors, led by Tony Gilroy. Gilroy has an impressive track record in the industry, having co-written the screenplay for Rogue One and directed and co-wrote the screenplays for the Bourne film series.

Andor also Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Genevieve O’Reilly. Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Stephen Schiff and Beau Willimon served as the writers of the Star Wars series, with Toby Haynes, Susanna White and Benjamin Caron directing the season one episodes.
