Stellan Skarsgard said that a Season 2 for the new Star Wars series Andor is happening.
2022 is shaping up to be a massive year for the Star Wars franchise. Beginning with the release of the new original series The Book of Boba Fett, the iconic galaxy far, far away will also see the release of new series such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor. The latter series, which is a prequel spin-off to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to hit Disney Plus sometime later this year, and thanks to a statement made by Stellan Skarsgard, we may be seeing a Season 2 for the upcoming series.
While speaking with Swedish publication DN.SE, Stellan Skarsgard confirmed his upcoming schedule regarding Dune: Part Two and Andor Season 2:
“We start with ‘Dune 2’ in July. And then in the autumn, it’s time for the second season of the Star Wars series ‘Andor’.
I do not know when they will start broadcasting it. It will take some time, so that it does not take too long between season one and season two.”
Given that fans already know the fate of Diego Luna’s titular hero in Andor given the events in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it’s interesting to hear that there looks to be a Season 2 of the series already in the works. And to hear that Skarsgard will likely return for a second season is quite exciting to hear, especially if he is shaping up to be an integral character to the Andor story.
The upcoming Star Wars series Andor was created by Tony Gilroy, whom serves an executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Diego Luna, whom also stars as the titular Rebel spy. It also stars Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Genevieve O’Reilly.
Andor is expected to release in mid-to-late 2022. Meanwhile, fans can watch Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and streaming on Disney Plus.
