Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller have joined the cast of the upcoming Star Wars series centered on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor.
Lucasfilm’s plans for the Star Wars franchise include a Disney Plus series centered on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, the Rebel Alliance intelligence officer who led the unit responsible for stealing the Death Star plans in Rogue One. Now, Variety reports that Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller have joined the cast of the upcoming series.
Details on the respective characters Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller will play were not divulged, though the outlet notes that both actors are final negotiations for their roles. A spokesperson for Disney reportedly declined to comment on the casting.
Before boarding the Cassian Andor star Star Wars series, Stellan Skarsgard had already portrayed roles in Disney projects such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, two of Marvel’s Thor films, and the first two Avengers films. Additional projects under Stellan Skarsgard’s belt include Good Will Hunting, Mamma Mia!, and the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries Chernobyl.
Kyle Soller’s screen credits include Anna Karenina, Fury, and Marrowbone. On stage, Kyle Soller portrayed Eric Glass in the play titled The Inheritance, a role that earned him an Olivier Award for Best Actor.
The Cassian Andor series will be set before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story during the early days of the rebellion. Full story details on the series are under wraps, though the project has been described as a “spy thriller.”
In addition to Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller, the series stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor and Alan Tudyk as K-2SO. The Americans producer Stephen Schiff serves as showrunner on the Star Wars series while Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy will pen the pilot in addition to directing multiple episodes.
The Cassian Andor Star Wars series is currently scheduled to premiere in 2021 exclusively on Disney Plus.
