Is Andrew Garfield ready to put down the mask? The Spider-Man actor gives his thoughts on coming back to his most iconic role once more.
After nearly a decade of being the punchline for horrible comic book movies, Andrew Garfield managed to redeem his version of Spider-Man in the eyes of fans with a stellar performance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, his appearance may not have been the victory lap many may have thought. When asked about making another return as the webhead, Garfield admitted that he’d be happy to come back as a character that he loves so much.
“For sure, I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing,” Garfield told Deadline. “If it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into. I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.”
Given how poorly Andrew Garfield’s take on Spider-Man was treated by executives and fans alike, it’s slightly shocking that he would be so open to returning to the role. However, this is certainly good news for fans who fell in love with his take on the beloved hero all over again when he made his jump to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it may be that multiversal connection that serves as a key to bringing him back again.
How Andrew Garfield Could Return As Spider-Man
While many people hoped that Tom Holland’s next outing in the MCU would focus on his adventures as a street-level hero, it seems Sony has different plans. All signs point to Knull being the next villain of the franchise, bringing together Spider-Man-related characters from across the multiverse in an adaptation of King In Black. And while alternate versions of the webhead weren’t involved in the original comic storyline, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think Sony would want to bring Andrew Garfield back for another cameo given the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In the discussion of actors making their return to the MCU, one can’t forget about Avengers: Secret Wars. The project is set to be the biggest Marvel film of all time to cap off the multiverse saga. Even with the underwhelming success of Andrew Garfield’s solo outings as Spider-Man, it would be foolish to think that the actor wouldn’t at least make a cameo in the project when it starts production.
