The Hollywood Reporter has learned Andy Serkis took a meeting with Sony to discuss the possibility of directing the sequel to Tom Hardy’s Venom.
Sony’s Venom proved to be a massive box office success despite the negative reception from critics, with the Tom Hardy film going on to earn a worldwide total of $855 million. Development on a Venom sequel began soon after with Tom Hardy set to reprise his role as the eponymous anti-hero.
However, director Ruben Fleischer will not be returning to the director’s chair for the Tom Hardy sequel and The Hollywood Reporter sources say Andy Serkis is one of the many filmmakers being considered to direct the next Venom film. Andy Serkis, who is best known for his groundbreaking motion capture work, is said to have flown into Los Angeles earlier this week to hold meetings set by “Sony brass” to discuss the matter.
Sony reportedly wants the Venom sequel to begin filming in November. The script for the film was written by Kelly Marcel while Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson are expected to reprise their respective roles.
Andy Serkis’ acting credits include roles in Black Panther, the Planet of the Apes reboot series, The Adventures of Tintin, and The Lord of Rings trilogy. In 2017, Andy Serkis made his directorial debut with the film Breathe and subsequently helmed Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

However, new concept illustrations reveal alternate designs for Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio suit were considered, some of which are notably different from the comic book outfit with entirely different color schemes.
