Deadline has confirmed that Anji White is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Disney Plus series Ironheart. White is expected to take up the role of Ronnie, the mother to protagonist Riri Williams, played by Dominique Thorne.

Anji White has made her mark in various notable roles throughout her career, the most memorable perhaps being her portrayal of Dibrell Smutney in the fourth season of FX’s Fargo. Beyond her role as Smutney, White has showcased her acting abilities across an array of TV shows, having made appearances in The Chi, 4400, Empire and Chicago Med.

In addition to Anji White’s Ironheart casting, Deadline continues hearing that Sacha Baron Cohen is playing a villainous character in the series, believed to be none other than Mephisto. The character is inspired by the demon Mephistopheles from the Faust legend and is often depicted as Marvel’s version of the Devil. He has previously been played by actors Peter Fonda and Ciaran Hinds.

Who else is attached to the Ironheart series?

Ironheart follows Riri Williams, a brilliant MIT student who creates the most advanced suit of armor since the one worn by Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man. Thorne made her first appearance as Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Chinaka Hodge is the head writer of the Ironheart series while Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes serve as directors. Hodge is also executive producing the project alongside Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Zoie Nagelhout and Kevin Feige.

The cast of Ironheart also includes Jim Rash, Lyric Ross, Harper Anthony, Manny Montana, Alden Ehrenreich, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Sonia Denis, Paul Calderón and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola.
