‘Ant-Man’ Star Michael Douglas Wishes Hank Pym Died In ‘Quantumania’

Should Hank Pym have perished?

Fans may not have been the only ones rooting for Hank Pym’s death in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania! Michael Douglas revealed his hopes that his character would have a spectacular death in the Marvel Cinematic universe.

For many, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania served as an underwhelming capstone to one of the MCU’s most middle-of-the-road franchises in the MCU. What many hoped would be an epic end to the character’s journey turned out to be just another sci-fi romp setting up the future of the multiverse saga.

Even some of the film’s stars seemed disappointed with the direction the project took. When speaking about his role as Hank Pym in the MCU, Michael Douglas reflected on the direction Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania took, revealing he’d requested a truly awesome death for his character that got denied.

“This actually was my request for the third one,” Douglas told The View. “I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects. But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up.”

While it’s a shame that Michael Douglas didn’t get the ending he wanted in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, in some ways it may have been better for Hank Pym to survive. The character’s journey through the MCU was one defined by the loss of his wife, so truly reuniting with her, emotionally and physically, seems like the perfect end for such a tragic tale.

The End Of Ant-Man In The MCU

The more interesting part of Michael Douglas’ comment, however, is that he doesn’t believe that he’ll return in the MCU following Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. This might come to a shock to fans given the film set up a clear continuation for Hank Pym, Scott Lang, and the entire team in the future following the defeat of Kang the Conqueror.

While this could simply be Michael Douglas being unaware of plans to bring back Hank Pym, it would also align with statements made by Disney on decreasing the quantity of MCU projects releasing. Especially given Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania was a critical flop, it may spell the premature end for Scott Lang’s journey.
