‘Aquaman’ Star Amber Heard Can Be Present For Johnny Depp’s Libel Testimony

The case is due to begin on July 7.

A new court order allows Aquaman star Amber Heard to be present when Johnny Depp testifies in his libel case against The Sun newspaper.

With Johnny Depp’s libel case heads to court this week, Aquaman star Amber Heard is allowed to be present when her ex-husband testifies. The Sun’s legal team failed to get the case thrown out last week, with Mr Justice Nicol allowing the trial to go ahead on July 7. Johnny Depp is suing the publishers and executive editor Dan Wootton for branding him as a “wife-beater” in an article from 2018.

Most recently, Johnny Depp was looking to ban his ex-wife from the trial so the jury wouldn’t be influenced by her presence during his cross-examination. However the Judge decided against the ban after pointing that Aquaman star Amber Heard has information the defendants are reliant on, and he went on to say that banning her would “inhibit … the conduct of their defence.”

“[The defendants] rely heavily on the information which Ms Heard can provide. [Heard] will not be in a position to give instructions to (NGN’s lawyers), but she can provide information on which the defendants may choose to act.”

Johnny Depp is set to reprise his role as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald in the third Fantastic Beasts movie. Meanwhile, Amber Heard is expected to return as Mera in the yet-to-be titled Aquaman sequel. For now, fans can see Heard as Mera in Aquaman. Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:
